What is Contest?
Hello everyone, this is Y.T, President of Visionaries TMC.
As I wrote in the Meeting Minutes, the first meeting in 2020 was a Club Contest. I’m sorry that I could not create a warm atmosphere… I had no room to do that.
By the way, what is “Contest”? Toastmasters has a contest every year. Let me briefly explain what the contest is.
Toastmasters holds a contest every spring and it is called the International Contest. International Contest venue differs every year, but it seems that somewhere in North America is the main venue. The contestants have to win contests from their club level. The contest proceeds as the follows:
- Club Contest (Club level)
- Area Contest (Area level)
- Division Contest (Legion level)
- District Contest (Japan level)
- International Contest (World level)
It starts from their own club and proceeds to the Area with some neighbour clubs, the Division which means the legion level, Japan level District, then finally International. We had a Club Contest yesterday.
The next stage is the Area Contest on 16th Feb. I’ll do my best to go to the Division level!

Meeting Minutesにも書きました通り、新年最初の例会は、クラブコンテストでした。緊張感漂う例会となってしまい、すみませんでした。コンテスタントとして参加すると、余裕がないのよ。。。
ところで、「コンテスト」とはなんでしょうか？Toastmastersの活動には毎年コンテストがあります。その流れについて簡単に説明いたします。
毎年春に開催されるコンテストはInternational Contestと呼ばれ、世界大会が開催されます。世界大会の場所は毎年異なるのですが、北米が多いみたいです。世界大会の出場者は、自分が所属するクラブから予選を勝ち上がり、最終的に選ばれます。順番としては以下のような感じです。
- Club Contest（クラブレベル）
- Area Contest（地域レベル）
- Division Contest（地方レベル）
- District Contest（日本レベル）
- International Contest（世界レベル）
最初は自分が所属するクラブから始まり、周辺クラブで開催するArea、関東や関西などの単位のDivision、そして全国大会のDistrictで戦い、その勝者がInternationalに出場するのです。今回は、その最初のClub Contestを開催しました。
次のコンテストは、2/16のArea Contestです。VisionariesからDivisionレベルに行けるように、しっかりと頑張ります！
