Who runs a club?

The main place of Toastmasters activities is each club. There are 16,800 clubs in total around the world and about 200 clubs in Japan. Then, who runs the clubs? Today, I’d like to introduce the Officers who run the clubs.

Each club has 7 officers. They are elected in every June and operates the clubs for a year from July. Details of each officers is as the follows:

・President

Defines club vision or mission. Although the President does not have any specific tasks, he/she should make an opening remark in each meeting and be a face of the club.

・Vice-President of Education （VPE）

Creates meeting agenda or schedules events.

・Vice-President of Membership（VPM）

Guest contact. Follow up emails with guests.

・Vice-President of Promotion（VPPR）

Manages websites or SNS. A key to get new members.

・Treasurer

Manages club finance. Formulates club budget and gathers annual fee.

・Sergeant at Arms

Books meeting venues and equipment.

・Secretary

Any kinds of support. Mainly supports other officers.

 

There aren’t any preconditions to be an Officer. I have experienced Secretary and VPE. If you are interested in it, why don’t you raise your hand for the next officers election? You surely can experience something unique only for officers.

誰がクラブを運営しているの？

こんにちは、Visionaries TMC会長のY.Tです。
Toastmastersの活動の舞台はクラブ。全世界で合計16,800のクラブがあり、日本だけでも200弱存在します。そんなクラブですが、いったい誰がどのように運営しているのでしょうか？本日は、Toastmastersのクラブを運営する役員（Officers）についてご紹介いたします。

各クラブには、Officerが7名存在します。毎年6月頃に選挙で選ばれ、7月から一年間、クラブの運営に携わります。各Officerの名前と役割は以下の通りです。

・President　会長

クラブの方針やビジョンを決める。具体的な作業はないものの、例会で毎回挨拶をしたり、他クラブとの窓口になったりする。

・Vice-President of Education （VPE）　副会長・教育担当

各例会の役割を決めたり、イベントのスケジューリングをする。

・Vice-President of Membership（VPM）　メンバー担当

ゲストとの窓口。メール問い合わせへの対応や、ゲストへのフォローアップを行う。

・Vice-President of Promotion（VPPR）　広報担当

ウェブサイトやSNS等の管理。新規メンバー獲得の要。

・Treasurer 会計担当

クラブの財政管理。予算を組んだり、会費を集めて本部に送金したり。

・Sergeant at Arms　設備担当

会場の予約や備品の管理など。縁の下の力持ち。

・Secretary　秘書

各種サポート。上記役員のサポートをすることが多い。

 

Officerに立候補するのに条件などはなく、入会した翌日にPresidentに立候補することもできます。私はこれまで、Secretary、VPEを経て、現在はPresidentです。

もしご興味があれば、是非次回の選挙で立候補してみてはいかがでしょうか？ただ例会に参加する以外のものが得られると思いますよ！
