A fantastic meeting filled with emotion, self-reflection, and plenty of laughs! From lively seasonal table topics to a deeply moving prepared speech, this session reminded us why practicing English in a supportive community makes such a difference. New member TM A. also joined us for the first time, adding fresh energy to the group.

🎉 Opening & Recent Updates

TM H. opened the meeting as our president, warmly welcoming everyone and sharing his recent golf outing with friends. Members then took turns giving brief personal updates — TM L. celebrated Lunar New Year, TM Y. mentioned voting in local elections and a wedding anniversary, and TM H. apologized for missing the previous session due to illness. These casual check-ins are one of the things that make our meetings feel less like a class and more like a conversation among friends. TM L. then introduced the session’s roles and agenda, reminding everyone to weave the idiom “out of hand” naturally into their speeches throughout the evening.

🗣 Table Topics Session

The Table Topics session brilliantly navigated the delicate balance of exploring election-related themes without diving into divisive political territory. TM S. prepared eight thoughtful questions focusing on communication, leadership, and information literacy – topics that resonated deeply in our current media landscape.

One standout moment came from TM S., who delivered a compelling response about information sources during elections. Rather than relying on social media with its echo-chamber algorithms, he advocated for reading multiple newspapers to gain a well-rounded, 360-degree perspective. His honest admission about enjoying fighter jet videos on YouTube but recognizing the danger of algorithmic bias for serious topics like elections struck a chord with everyone. The contrast he drew between using social media for hobbies versus seeking unbiased thinking through traditional media highlighted the sophisticated media literacy we all need in today’s world.

🎙 Prepared Speech Session

1st Speaker: “Knocking on the Heavy Door” – TM Y.

TM Y. delivered a powerful and deeply personal speech about reaching out to his father — someone he had avoided for over a decade due to unresolved misunderstandings. After a friend’s encouragement, he finally sent a simple text asking to meet for a drink. What followed was a three-hour conversation that changed his perspective entirely: his father was not the intimidating figure he had imagined, but simply an ordinary person carrying his own regrets and joys.

TM Y. closed with an invitation to the audience: “Think about your own heavy doors — and consider knocking.” It was a beautifully crafted speech that left the room quiet for a moment before the applause began. This speech is also heading to the Area Contest — and we couldn’t be more excited to cheer TM Y. on!

🔍 Evaluation & Feedback
